Family Council is Here to Help Our Families and Community
Recently we have had some family members to step up to the plate to help our residents’ families as well as the community to better understand the emotional and legal issues surrounding admitting a loved one to a nursing home whether it be short or long term.
Many are faced with making decisions on matters that aren’t fully understood at the time the decision is made. Our family council has been formed to help bring in speakers to address issues family face prior to, upon or after admission. The council’s mission is to inform, educate and support families within the facility as well as being a testimonial for those considering placement.
On Sunday, November 19th at 2:00 p.m. our family council will be launched to aid our families and community to better understand the issues and facing decisions just a little bit easier with the aid of guest speakers dealing with everything from making the decision to what do I do next? The first week will discuss what to expect when you place your loved one in a facility and the speakers will be the administrator, Mary Wood along with some of the department heads.
The council will be aided by the facility in order to secure guest speakers but facility representatives will only be involved when invited. The council facilitators are three family members: Benita Chesley, Jeannie Hancock and Tommy Stewart.
Some topics brought up were such things as: POA and Guardianship, Advance Directives, Hospice, Five Wishes, dealing with Alzheimer’s disease, etc. The meetings will be announced in advance in our newsletter and on radio.
We thank these three for stepping out and taking the responsibility of taking the lead. We encourage families to get involved and meetings. It will be a time to learn and a time to share.
We look forward to seeing you!
