The Value of Soup

Our diets can often change during cold weather, and our schedules may not slow down, so we frequently seek out hardy, quick-to-prepare meals.

Making a pot of soup is a perfect solution for a healthy, hot meal.

The origin of soup dates back to practically the beginning of history. The first known soups were probably not made with meat, but meat later came to be used as the basis for soup because of the agreeable and appetizing flavor it provides.

A scarcity of butter and other fats that had been used to produce moistness and richness in foods brought about such clear soups as bouillon and consommé in France.

There are dozens of different soups that you can make from scratch, buy in a can or make from a powdered soup kit. For a change from the basic chicken noodle or tomato soup, why not try a creamy wild rice mushroom, white chicken chili, cheesy potato with bacon, country bean or even Italian wedding soup?

Celebrate National Soup Month by trying a new soup or enjoying a hot bowl of your favorite!
